OUR CHARITY 4.0:
INITIATIVES
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS DAY
October 21st is National Domestic Violence Awareness Day. To show our support, we will dedicate our social media to Maitri- we will wear the designated color as well as release a general statement/video about the importance of breaking cycles of gender violence and how Taaza plans on being a part of the change.
ENGAGING MEN AND BOYS COLUMN
Taaza believes that men have an essential role in ending the violence against women and girls- we will not be silent bystanders. The men of the Taaza executive board will share their thoughts in a column about a plethora of stigmatized topics including: their role as young men in breaking generational cycles, the impact of South Asian culture on gender violence, mental health, power dynamics, etc. This column will be published on the Maitri blog/page as a representation of Taaza in the beginning of November.
RELEASING SHORT FORM MEDIA CONTENT
We would like to include many voices in our fight for a change. In our local community as well as the network for dance, we are fortunate to have connections with diverse people with various opinions and experiences. Every month after our posts in October, we plan on highlighting a story in our local community or an interview talking about stigmatized topics- mental health, LGBTQ+ in the South Asian community, etc.
SURVIVOR STORIES: A FIRST HAND PERSPECTIVE
As we are working closely with Maitri’s outreach team, we have the unique opportunity of speaking with survivors that utilized Maitri’s services. We get to hear their empowering stories and share what we learn through our media.
PITT SAFE (SEXUAL ASSAULT FACILITATION AND EDUCATION) PROGRAM
Taaza will host two SAFE presentations in which our board will participate in discussion-based education about bystander intervention, consent, and healthy relationships. By doing so not only will our entire board be educated on handling harassment situations (which can be applicable at competition events), but we will also receive funding to support our mission with Maitri. Taaza will host one presentation in the fall semester and one presentation in the spring semester.
BETWEEN FRIENDS: CONVERSATIONS WITH MAITRI PODCAST EPISODES
Taaza will collaborate with Maitri to release two podcast episodes this year. The first episode will be filmed and released by the end of December talking about College Dating Violence and Power Dynamics. The second episode will be filmed and released by the end of January talking about Dismantling Gender Bias and Breaking Generational Cycles.
LOCAL COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER
As it gets to more fall weather, we plan on having a “chai” and other fall treats booth in a local park. It was important to us to have an event that was dedicated to only raising money for Maitri. We aim to educate our peers as well as connect our community. Anticipated beginning of November.
INTEGRATION/VIDEO FOR OUR COMP
Through all the experiences and our collaboration with Maitri, we plan to use all the knowledge to create a short video to play at the actual competition. We want everyone to be educated and aware. Along with that, we will make it easy for people at the competition to donate directly to our funds that will go to Maitri
MAITRI X TAAZA
ENGAGING MEN AND BOYS
Moving forward, Taaza will actively support Maitri’s vision of creating a society where all relationships are built on dignity, equity, and compassion.
This includes sharing stories, educating our community, and fundraising opportunities. Stay tuned as we support Maitri’s campaign!
